Tempering
Tempering aims to soften the metal and improve its ductility (ability to be shaped without breaking). It involves heating the metal to a specific temperature, holding it for a while, and then cooling it slowly, typically in a furnace or still air. Annealed metals are easier to machine, form, and stamp.
